I can't say enough good things about this book. It is incredibly helpful for anyone getting a puppy, for a trainer and probably for a breeder. I got a copy for my dog trainer friends and my groomer. The book is laid out so well and explains in easy to understand language just what a new puppy "owner" needs to know in order to prepare for the puppy, to do on the day you bring the puppy home, to introduce the puppy to other pets, train, housebreak and so much more. I urge people to read this before you get your puppy but frankly, anyone will benefit from the book even if your puppy is with you already. Better a few weeks or days late than not at all. You won't be sorry. I thought I was going to use it as a refresher course as it has been 12 years since I had a puppy at home but I learned so much from this book, things I never thought of. I have read it 3 times and requested that my trainer and groomer read it. They said the same thing about the book....so well done. I have several books on puppy training and living with a puppy. I loved this book! My husband and I are going to be getting a new puppy in a few months, and this book answered so many of our questions. It is filled with helpful, practical advice from a very knowledgeable author and dog trainer.
This is a must have guide for anyone getting a puppy. I have had many dogs in my life. I just wish I had this guide for all of them. It makes so much good sense and best of all it works. My new puppy Picco (9 weeks old) is now crate trained and loves it, toilet trained as long as I pay attention, and beginning to be better accepted by my other dogs and cats. He now sits and does a down. We are working on recall. The author actually responds to desperate emails from the pup owner with succinct and organized advice when a problem arises. Buying this book also got me the input of a dog behaviorist when I most needed it! I highly recommend this read.
